Zeki Muren 1970s orange-colored rug with futurist abstract decorative motifs

Although Müren was best known for his music, extravagant costumes, and women's makeup, very few people know that he was also a talented textile designer, and the carpets made from his designs in the 1960s and 1970s are now being greatly reevaluated by admirers and collectors. Some have jewel-like geometric patterns, others feature bold abstract shapes in 1970s colors. Most Zeki Müren carpets were made in Isparta, southwest Turkey, but some were also made in a town called Demirci near Manisa, which wove a softer weave than Isparta. This one we present is emblematic of 1970s taste, with abstract designs and bright colors. LITERATURE: NO. 198 HALI WINTER 2008
