Golden mirror in Mecca, Piedmont, 18th century

Piedmontese mirror of the eighteenth century in carved and golden wooden wood This magnificent mirror, dating back to the second half of the eighteenth century, is a valuable example of the Piedmontese Abanisteria of the time. Made of solid wood, it has a complex and refined hand carving processing, which enhances its grace and elegance. Technical characteristics: Type: fireplace mirror/dresser, typical of the eighteenth -century prestigious furniture. Origin: Piedmont, Italy. Era: XVIII century (about 1750-1790). Materials: Structure: conifer wood, as usual in the Piedmontese productions for its lightness and ease of carving. Finish: golden in Mecca. This technique, widespread in the eighteenth century, provided for the application of a metal leaf (usually silver or tin) subsequently painted with a crushed transparent lacquer with resins and dyes to simulate gold. The gilding in Mecca, over time, tends to take on a warm and slightly dark patina, visible in some places, giving an authentic and lived aspect. Construction techniques: Intaglio: the frame and top are entirely carved by hand with rococo and neoclassical incipient motifs. Fogliare's volutes are distinguished, elements with stylized rocasille and patients in garlanda, typical of the transitory taste between the Rococo and the neoclassicism. Assembly: the structure is assembled with traditional techniques of the time, such as joints and nails, which guarantee its solidity despite its age. Style: while maintaining a strong influence Rococo in the voluptuous peak and in the side carvings, there are already transition elements towards neoclassicism, visible in the greater composure of the rectangular frame of the mirror and in the overall symmetry. Mirror: the original mirror has a slight oxidation and some "spots" characteristics that attest to the authenticity and age of the artifact. State of conservation: excellent state of general conservation, commensurate with age. It presents signs of use and time (small shortcomings in golden, dark patina of the meccatura, which increase its charm and historical authenticity. Any professional restorations performed over time have been aimed at preserving its structural and aesthetic integrity. Approximate dimensions: Total height: 146 cm Maximum width: 75 cm
