Item description

Umbertino desk supported by carved feet, as are the carved uprights that frame the front where, starting from the bottom, there are three drawers, the last of which has a writing surface and various compartments, one of which has an inkwell. The three upper drawers conceal a door that can be opened by folding, concealing an architectural space, which emulates the front of a building, with columns and two niches with bronze sculptures framing a central door, above which is written "INDULGENT PLENR QUOTI PERPET"; there are numerous secret drawers. In the upper part there is another drawer, the opening of which is carved in the form of a grotesque mask; the broken tympanum crowning the piece of furniture contains a carved bust of Dante Alighieri in the centre. Made of walnut, veneered in walnut burl with ebony frames, the interior of the cabinet is made of maple.
