Gouache painting depicting a view of Naples, 19th century 1370341

Item description

Antique "Gauches" painting with a contemporary frame depicting a view of Naples. In this painting the painter attempts to capture the suggestions of contemporary landscape painting, an example provided by the so-called Posillipo School and some of its passionate interpreters. The painting technique of gouache, commonly known in artistic jargon as "gouache" from the French, originated in Europe in the 16th century, and is recognised and distinguished in the painting scene for its originality and delicacy. The process of gouache is carried out by using special pigments, as they are very similar to acrylic tempera but differ in that they have a much lighter yield on the canvas, which seems almost opaque. The Gouache Technique, therefore, is a type of tempera colour made heavier and more opaque with the addition of a white pigment (e.g. white lead or chalk) mixed with gum arabic (gum tragacanth was once preferred). The result is a more opaque and brighter colour than normal tempera. Condition: Very good condition. Provenance: Naples (1880/90). Document: Certificate of Authenticity. Assistance: We are at your disposal for further clarifications or photographic details. Shipment: All over Italy, Europe and the rest of the world at very low prices, secure and traceable. Shipping will be agreed privately and will not be expensive.
