Item description

Very rare antique hand-painted glazed majolica fireplace. Complex and elaborate shape that defines the era around the second half of the nineteenth century as until the 1920s they were made rather simple models. The first open fireplaces of this kind made of ceramic appeared towards the end of the 18th century and were made with the technical and functional characteristics of the famous fireplaces designed by Benjamin Franklin. Types of fireplaces made in metal in America while in terracotta in Italy, especially in Piedmont where there was great availability of clays. The fireplace we offer for sale is of particular value and remarkable workmanship as it is not made of simple terracotta but fine majolica fireplaces of this importance are located in many Savoy residences. Ancient article used to emphasize that probably the counter-heart or the black metal frame placed at the mouth of the fire may not be coeval in fact were often decorated in bas-relief.
