Item description
Art Deco' executive desk in chestnut wood worked with wave carvings, covered on four sides in decorated white buxus. On the three sides there are monochrome subjects depicting Roman warships, revised and corrected with the taste of the twentieth century related to the classic ecclettico typical of the thirties. On the work surface the subject is in color and reproduces the detail of an ancient map depicting the Brazilian territory. On the back 3 drawers equipped in the upper part and 2 doors in the lower part, mirrored in walnut briarwood. The hinges and the openings are in bronze. The buxus has been a covering material designed and produced by Cartiere Giacomo Bosso di Malthi in 1928. The buxus converts paper into a malleable, robust and flexible material. It was mainly used as a covering for wooden objects in place of veneer or other materials such as parchment, it was used by architects, designers and artists such as Giuseppe Pagano, Gino Levi-Montalcini, Augusto Černigoj, Fortunato Depero and others. The new material was used only during the twenty years of Fascism and its use did not go beyond the borders of Italy.
