Sandows chair by Renè Herbst black edition, 1930s
SILVER Seller in Bari, Italy
A pioneer in the use of simple industrial materials for designer furniture, Herbst continually developed the theme of the chair with seat and back formed by elastic bands, of the type used as a parcel rack. The version with high backrest and armrests follows the one without armrests and appears in a photo of the showroom furnished by Robert Lallemant, ceramist and designer, in 1931. In 1937 a version is presented which maintains the use of springs in the armrests, instead replaced by the cane woven into the seat and backrest.
