Ancient Italian painting from the first half of the 18th century. Oil work on canvas depicting an intense scene of mystical ecstasy of Saint Francis of Assisi. A painting of considerable size, characterized by a scenographic and engaging composition, in which the saint, kneeling in the foreground, abandons himself to the divine vision among luminous clouds and angelic presences.
The scene is constructed with refined luministic sensitivity, in a harmonious dialogue between the earthly dimension, underlined by the presence of the skull and the cross, and the celestial one, represented by splendid cherubs in the clouds.
Painting of notable pictorial quality, referable to the central-northern Italian context of the early eighteenth century, close to the Emilian figurative culture and the sensitivity of Giuseppe Maria Crespi. The work stands out for the elegance of the chromaticism, the softness of the tonal transitions and the strong spiritual charge.
Monumental painting, perfect for reception rooms, large halls or private chapels, where it can fully express its grandeur and decorative value. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation.
