Oil on canvas. Lombard-Venetian school of the late 1600s - early 1700s.
Presented in the foreground, half-length, is a farmer carrying a hoe resting on his shoulder. The figure is characterized by the meticulous rendering of the details, from the wrinkles of the face to the dirt of the hands, from the torn clothes to the roughness of the hoe.
In its manner, the painting recalls the production of Pietro Bellotti, who introduced figures of a similar character to this one into his portraiture production.
The painting has undergone restoration and relining in the past.
