Alvaro Siza
Award-winning Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza (1933) has been a landmark in the history of architecture since the mid-1950s. From the very beginning, his imaginative buildings were conceived as intermediate worlds, elements of continuity and dialogue between nature and the world of architecture. The same organic approach can be found in his essential and refined furniture and lamps. Some of his lamps are linked to Italy (a country that Siza had already approached from his studies, when he was fascinated by the rationalist style of Terragni): for Fontana Arte he designed the Falena series of lamps in 1994, and in 1999 he created the iconic Lorosae methacrylate lamp for his solo exhibition, set up inside the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza, which is still produced by Reggiani in many variations.
