Day bed Wooden structure, fabric-covered padding, steel details. Manufacturer's brand Prod. France & Son, Denmark, 1960s France & Daverkosen - are today among the most sought-after names in the vintage market. Many pieces still in circulation retain their original label and were designed by the most important Danish designers of the Mid-Century. Many sources agree that the popular company was founded in Denmark around 1948 by British entrepreneur Charles W. France and Danish cabinetmaker Eric Daverkosen. Initially specializing perhaps in mattresses, France & Daverkosen owned a large furniture factory in Hillerød, just outside Copenhagen, in 1952, quickly becoming one of the most famous furniture companies in Denmark, dedicated to mass production rather than traditional artisanal methods. Seats with wide cushions and lightweight teak frames are the hallmarks of France & Daverkosen. In 1957, when France's son Julian joined the company, the name changed to France & Son.
