Mario Schifano, Material silkscreen with enamels 70 x 100 cm, year 1998, specimen numbered XVIII/L (18/50) and handwritten autograph signature of the artist.
The composition develops on a blue chromatic dominant, articulated in overlapping fields and crossed by filamentous and dynamic white marks. The central core, denser and darker, acts as a visual fulcrum, while the lateral expansions generate a sense of continuous movement.
The sign, quick and nervous, recalls an automatic writing, in which gesture and thought coincide. The inclusion of the wording “Cruise to Infinity” introduces an evocative and open dimension, suggesting an idea of crossing, travel and projection beyond the visual limit. In Cruise to Infinity, Schifano condenses gesture, word, and vision into a single pictorial trajectory, conveying an ever-expanding image, suspended between sign energy and conceptual openness.
