A significant and rare desk (or dining table) from the 'Icarus' office system, designed by Ettore Sottsass and Michele De Lucchi for Olivetti Synthesis in 1982. The Icarus series represents a milestone in industrial design, marking the moment when the "Office of the Future" moved away from rigid, gray functionalism toward a more expressive, human-centric aesthetic. Designed by two of the founding members of the Memphis Group, this table showcases their signature use of playful geometries and unconventional color palettes. The structure is composed of heavy-gauge tubular steel legs finished in a soft powder-blue lacquer, connected by oversized circular joints that emphasize the industrial yet friendly nature of the design. The minimalist white laminate top is framed by a gray rounded edge, a functional detail designed for durability and comfort. This piece is a quintessential example of Postmodern industrial design, successfully bridging the gap between high-end corporate production and avant-garde artistic expression.
