This rare Thonet ensemble — comprising two B 246 armchairs and a T 142 coffee table — offers a vivid glimpse into the expressive edge of early modernist furniture design. Attributed to Josef Frank, the set captures his hallmark balance of functional geometry and unexpected color — modernism softened through architectural intuition. Crafted in the 1930s by Thonet, the B 246 chairs (labeled) feature low horizontal slatted backs and gracefully arched bentwood frames, combining visual rhythm with ergonomic modesty. The T 142 table, finished in bold red-orange lacquer, echoes the sculptural integrity of Frank’s work with its wide top and cylindrical leg base.
