Important wall furniture made in Cantù (Italy, ca. 1955), consisting of a bench with front drawers and three hanging bodies with geometrically designed walnut doors. The right compartment houses a bar with a mirrored interior, glass shelves and a working (restored) lighting system. The design, in terms of proportions, tapered legs and refinement of the veneers, is attributed to the scope of Paolo Buffa / Vittorio Dassi for the school of La Permanente Mobili Cantù. The furniture has been recently restored: controlled finish, overhauled mechanics, bar light system brought back up to standard use. Object of great executive quality and strong stage presence, ideal as a day/bar cabinet for mid-century and contemporary interiors. Permanente Mobili Cantù is a historic consortium of workers and wood-furniture companies born in Cantù at the end of the nineteenth century (roots in 1893) to promote and market local artisan quality. In the ’50s it became a reference point for the Italian mid-century, collaborating with designers and architects such as Paolo Buffa, Vittorio Dassi, Ico Parisi and others, and supporting cultural initiatives such as the Selettiva del Mobile (since 1955), which contributed to projecting the “Cantù furniture” on the international scene.
