Elegant and refined pair of French “Bridge” chairs, crafted from solid wood with a black lacquered finish. The overall structure is designed to be both sturdy and functional, with well-balanced proportions and a timeless aesthetic. The legs are compact and well-shaped, featuring a slender and graceful cabriole profile that enhances the chairs’ visual lightness. These chairs were produced between 1948 and 1950 by a skilled master craftsman working in Lyon, a city long renowned for its tradition of high-quality furniture production, including the celebrated “Bridge” chairs. The name of this model derives from the card game Bridge, extremely popular in France at the time, for which these chairs were especially appreciated thanks to their comfort and elegant design. The pair has undergone careful restoration. The upholstery and the seat padding have been entirely renewed by an experienced Florentine artisan, who selected a durable, high-quality velvet in a sophisticated mustard-yellow tone. The newly reupholstered seats provide excellent comfort and are well-suited for extended use. Traditionally, French “Bridge” chairs are distinguished by their relatively high backrests, designed to offer proper support to the back, and by their padded seats, which enhance overall comfort. The presence of armrests, as in this pair, adds further convenience and support, making these chairs suitable not only for card playing but also as dining chairs or as elegant additional seating in various areas of the home. The subtly curved legs contribute both visual elegance and structural stability. The chairs are fully restored and in excellent condition.
