Description: Antique oil painting on canvas with a frame with three orders of gilded wood carving depicting a battle between Christians and Turks. At the center of the scene stands a knight with a plumed crest caught in the middle of the action while riding a dark steed. To his left another soldier on foot holds a large flag with exactly a reddish toned military banner. The line of fighters extends to the right where other knights can be seen in motion charging at the enemy, creating a strong sense of dynamism and controlled chaos. The brushstrokes appear rapid, material and vibrant, useful for conveying the immediacy of the movement and the drama of the clash. Provenance: Naples 18th century.
