Description: Antique oil painting on canvas depicting the Crucifixion of Christ with the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, dating back to the early 18th century. This exquisitely crafted painting dates back to the late 17th and early 18th century, depicting the dramatic scene of the Crucifixion on Calvary. The composition follows a rigorous pyramidal scheme, strongly influenced by the classicist tradition. At the center stands the monumental figure of Jesus Christ on the cross, characterized by accurate anatomical rendering and a sinuous and dynamic white drapery (loincloth). On either side of the cross, the Virgin Mary shares in the pain, wrapped in a deep blue cloak that opens over a dusty pink dress, her face turned upward in a sorrowful expression. On the right, the figure of Saint Joseph is depicted as a mature man, as described in the Gospels, emphasizing his wisdom. The background is dominated by a leaden, stormy sky, pierced by a glimmer of moonlight that heightens the scene's poignancy. In the lower background, the blurred outlines of the classical architecture of the city of Jerusalem, including its temple, can be seen. Condition: Excellent. Origin: Naples.
