Item description

Thonet Cardinal Chairs – Austria, Pre-1890. An extraordinary example of a historic chair, these "Cardinal" chairs are attributed to Michael Thonet, a pioneer of industrial design and founder of the eponymous Thonet company. Crafted from steam-bent beech, they feature a perfectly preserved original Vienna cane seat and backrest. Produced before 1890 in Austria, they represent the evolution of the wood-bending technique that made the Thonet brand famous worldwide. The sleek lines and high backrest lend the chair a timeless elegance, suitable for both classic and contemporary settings. The piece bears an attribution mark and is in excellent condition, with minimal signs of use consistent with its age.
