Iridescent blown glass basket of flowers by Archimede Seguso, mid-20th century. The piece is in excellent condition, as can be seen from the attached photos. On one of the petals, we note a small chip (or perhaps a simple detachment of the blown glass). Archimede Seguso was one of the most important glass masters of the 20th century. Born in Murano, Venice, on December 17, 1909, he began working in a furnace at the age of 11, perfecting his art and contributing significantly to the world of artistic glass. His family has a long history in glassmaking, with roots dating back to the 14th century. Seguso left the Seguso Vetri d'Arte brand in 1942 and founded his own glass factory, Vetraria Archimede Seguso, in 1946, taking on the role of artistic director and principal designer. His works range from intricate vases to necklaces and sculptures, covering a wide range of shapes and colors, with subjects including animals and abstract shapes. His creations are admired in many museums around the world, demonstrating his creative genius and unparalleled skill. Seguso has been recognized for taking traditional Murano glassmaking techniques to new extremes, introducing innovative techniques and significantly contributing to the survival and renewal of this ancient craft. His legacy continues through his children and grandchildren, who continue and further expand the family's heritage in the glass art of Venice.
