Large Italian painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas, first canvas, depicting Saint Francis of Assisi in ecstasy. The Saint is accompanied by a splendid angel holding a crucifix next to a skull and a scourge, iconographic symbols linked to penance and meditation on the transience of life.
Saint Francis looks intensely at the crucifix and is leaning on a large book with a devotional inscription "Op. d. Francisci" which alludes to the works of the Saint. Painting of fine pictorial quality which stands out for the expressiveness of the Saint's face and the sweetness of the little angel, and manages to transport you into a mystical and intimate atmosphere.
The canvas, with a strong spiritual charge, is ideal both for collectors of sacred art and for those who wish to enrich an environment with a work capable of evoking devotion and meditation. Painting already restored with replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. It shows some signs of aging, overall in a fairly conservative state.
