Item description

Antique pharmacy jar / bottle dating back to the early 20th century. Probably (it is difficult to establish by eye) it is borosilicate glass, a type of glass resistant to thermal shock and chemical elements invented in 1887 by the German glass chemist Otto Schott. These containers were often used in chemical laboratories and pharmacies to contain chemical preparations or to carry out laboratory tests, they are commonly called "Albarelli" (from the Arabic "al-barani" terracotta or glass vase). Precisely from the Arab people, this type of container was introduced to the West around the 15th century as a container often made of wood/terracotta or glass. The example for sale is very old, made by blowing, small occlusions of air enclosed in the glass and the imperfect symmetry testify to its artisanal creation! The cap as well as the neck of the jar are frosted and conical in order to guarantee an hermetic closure without the use of gaskets. The object is in excellent condition as shown in the photos. Measurements: Height 15cm Maximum diameter 7 cm Inlet diameter 2 cm Also look at the other items I have for sale:-)
