Item description

Elegant and refined French lead crystal candle holder. Its shape, defined by soft curves and rounded contours, captivates with its exceptional fluidity and lightness. The design is simple yet bold and perfectly balanced, reflecting thoughtful aesthetic research and remarkable artistic sensitivity. Crafted from high-quality lead crystal with a lead oxide content exceeding 30%, this material—where lead replaces the calcium found in ordinary glass—offers superior hardness, outstanding transparency, and a high refractive index. Master glassmakers skillfully transformed a solid block of crystal into a delicate, almost ethereal form, hand-shaped with precision and artistry. Through twisting and hot-forming techniques, they created an object of extraordinary elegance and expressive power. The candle holder was made in the Art Deco style between 1930 and 1935 in a small artisanal workshop in Vannes-le-Châtel, located in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department of the Grand Est region of France—an area renowned for its fine glass production. Many local artisans collaborated with the famous Cristallerie de Vannes and, as in this case, often took inspiration from its designs for their own refined creations. The history of the Cristallerie de Vannes dates back to around 1765, when it was founded under aristocratic patronage. It quickly became one of France’s leading glass manufacturers, initially producing tableware and later, during the 1930s, expanding into decorative works. The company relied on the exceptional craftsmanship of the many skilled artisans active in the region’s glassmaking workshops. The candle holder is in good overall condition. Dimensions: width 23 cm (9.05 in), depth 10 cm (3.93 in), height 17 cm (6.69 in).
