Tempera on panel. Transylvanian school of the 19th century.
The work, missing a portion on the right, presents the Madonna on the throne with the Baby Jesus on her lap who holds the sacred scriptures with one hand and indicates the path to follow with the other. At the top left an archangel.
The Romanian iconographic school has more popular connotations than the Byzantine or Greek Orthodox one, in particular in the less severe and more human, less detached faces, and in the chromatic choices of more earthly colours.
The icon has several color defects and small damage to the table.
