Wonderful French painting from the 18th century. Oil work on canvas depicting the halt of the mounted grenadiers of the King's guard by Charles Parrocel (1688-1752), one of the most representative paintings of eighteenth-century French military painting. Son of art, he joined the cavalry to have a correct idea of military operations and specialized in battle scenes.
In this composition the King's elite soldiers are depicted in a moment of pause at the military camp, a scene of rest between officers and soldiers on horseback during a military campaign. This is a very high quality contemporary copy of the original exhibited today at the Louvre in Paris, presumably the work of a pupil or the artist's workshop.
A painting of notable pictorial quality, characterized by a solid construction of the figures, a refined rendering of the uniforms and an effective chromatic balance. Large painting, ideal for a large reception room, perfect for military history enthusiasts. Work already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation.
