Item description

Extraordinary late Gothic triptych in high relief, carved in wood and richly polychrome with remains of gilding. The central scene depicts the Madonna with the Child Jesus, who gently presents him to a veiled saint. The composition reflects the devotional character of late medieval sacred art, with softly modeled faces, stylized drapery folds and bright golden accents. On the lateral wings saints are depicted standing under architectural wall units with decorative profiling: on the left an armored holy knight with a spear; on the right a bearded saint holding a book. The sculptural treatment and painted surface retain a strong period character and devotional presence. The polychromy presents an authentic patina of the time, with evident wear and localized lacks of the pictorial and gilded layers, consistent with the era and historical use. The hinged construction allows the doors to be closed, while the back remains simply finished. The work probably comes from Central Europe (German/Alpine region), within the tradition of late Gothic devotional relief sculpture. An eye-catching collectible piece of sacred art, suitable for medieval sculpture collections or as a distinctive decorative focal point in an interior. Condition: This vintage/antique item has visible damage, flaws, or small missing parts. Might need restoration, part of hand missing...
