Refined bronze sculpture bearing the signature of the famous master of Neapolitan verism, Vincenzo Gemito (1852-1929). The work portrays a young boy with the distinctive features of the myth of Alexander the Great, characterised by his famous hairstyle with a quiff tied on his forehead (anastolè), a theme dear to Gemito's artistic production. The sculpture exudes extraordinary vitality: the intense gaze, the half-closed mouth and the naturalistic rendering of the hair testify to the author's technical mastery in capturing the soul of his subjects. The bust rests on an elegant circular moulded base, embellished on the front with a small applied frieze depicting a winged cherub/genie, a detail that enriches the rarity of the piece.
