Rare 18th century Tuscan open desk, Louis XV style, entirely veneered in fine olive wood, an essence particularly appreciated for its warm grain, which gives the surface a refined natural decorative effect.
This open desk is finished on all sides and can be placed in the center of the room without having to place it against the wall. The completely refined back makes it perfect for being placed anywhere in the environment, guaranteeing 360° aesthetics and functionality.
The upper body is characterized by an elegant roller shutter (also called "shutter"), composed of thin sliding wooden slats, perfectly shaped to follow the curved shape of the top. The shutter, which can be operated using knobs and a central lock in golden metal, conceals the internal writing compartment. The side drawers hide secret compartments, a typical element of quality cabinetmaking of the period, designed to store confidential documents or small valuable objects.
The front presents a balanced configuration: in the center a linear drawer under the top, flanked by two slightly recessed side bodies, each equipped with two superimposed drawers.
The structure rests on four wavy, slender and sinuous legs, with an arched and tapered shape towards the bottom. The legs, typical of eighteenth-century Tuscan production, give visual lightness and dynamism to the desk, balancing the important presence of the upper body.
The desk stands out for its formal elegance and refinement, the whole highlights careful workmanship: thin edges, harmonious curved connections and a skilful arrangement of the olive grain, arranged to create specular effects and natural decorative motifs. All this increases its rarity and collectible interest.
