Item description

Elegant French suspended lantern crafted in brass with a transparent blown glass cylindrical diffuser. This piece beautifully expresses the Neoclassical aesthetic reinterpreted through the refined sensibility of mid-century French design, where the purity of form is combined with the understated luxury of noble materials. The lantern was produced between 1958 and 1964 in one of the many artisan workshops active in the outskirts of Paris, an area renowned during the period for the production of decorative objects in glass, wood, ceramic, and metal. The brass structure features a sober and architectural design, softened by elegant ring-shaped elements that lend movement and vertical balance to the composition. The large blown glass cylinder fully reveals the internal light source, composed of three electrified faux candles, a decorative detail inspired by traditional candle lanterns reinterpreted in a modern style. This type of lighting fixture was often created for grand entrances, staircases, hotel lobbies, and refined private residences. The warm tone of the brass combined with the transparency of the glass creates a sophisticated balance between luminosity and visual lightness, qualities characteristic of the finest French productions of the period. The lantern also retains its original suspension chain and the bell-shaped canopy designed to elegantly conceal the electrical connections. Its style recalls French productions inspired by the taste of and the refined Neoclassical interpretations popular in postwar Paris, when decorative lighting played a central role in defining sophisticated and timeless interiors. The piece can be placed stylistically between French Neoclassicism reinterpreted through a Mid-Century lens and the European Hollywood Regency aesthetic: clean lines, noble materials, and harmonious proportions without excessive ornamentation. Although it cannot be definitively attributed to a specific designer, the quality of craftsmanship and the elegance of its proportions suggest a high-level manufacture. This lantern possesses a strong visual presence while remaining refined and balanced, making it suitable for both classic and contemporary interiors. It is ideal for placement in an elegant entryway, above a staircase, in a sophisticated hallway, or suspended above a round dining table or an important console. It integrates beautifully into Neoclassical, Hollywood Regency, Mid-Century French, or sophisticated contemporary interiors, especially when paired with marble, dark woods, boiserie, or furnishings in neutral tones. The transparency of the glass allows the light to diffuse softly and evenly, helping to create a warm, welcoming, and refined atmosphere. A highly elegant decorative object capable of enriching an interior without overwhelming it, embodying the timeless sophistication and versatility that continue to distinguish French design today. The lantern is in good condition. A small air bubble is visible within the glass, a characteristic inherent to traditional blown glass craftsmanship that testifies to the authenticity of the manufacturing process and should not be considered a flaw associated with modern industrial production. The system is working, but the wiring is European; the compatibilità of the voltage in other countries must always be checked before use. Dimensions Height: 37.41 in. Diameter: 9.84 in.
