This stunning pair of Italian sconces from the first half of the 19th century is a fine example of period lighting. They are characterized by carved, lacquered and gilded wooden elements. Their curved wooden arms feature a two-tone finish and decorative gold leaf details. They are complemented by shield-shaped lampshades (or "ventilines") in light-colored fabric, adorned with exposed stitching. Originally conceived as candelabras or sconces, these lamps were often used to frame mirrors above fireplaces or to illuminate elegant period interiors.
