This period miniature depicts the Madonna of San Sisto, a Renaissance masterpiece originally painted by Raphael between 1512 and 1513. The Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus is in the center, flanked on the left by Pope Saint Sixtus and on the right by Saint Barbara. Below, you can see the two emblematic cherubs perched on the wall. This hand-decorated miniature is painted on a porcelain plate. Frame: The oval painting is set in a gilded metal profile (bronze or brass), which is in turn mounted in a square enameled wooden frame, adorned with relief decorations at the corners.
