Item description

Elegant and refined Italian Art Deco side table crafted from light walnut wood. The upper top, distinguished by its clean and understated edge, is enhanced by a transparent glass insert featuring delicate beveled detailing. This design allows the viewer to fully appreciate the sophisticated structure beneath while adding a sense of lightness and visual depth. Particularly striking is the graceful and harmonious design of the legs, which are connected by a practical lower shelf featuring an open latticework construction. This architectural element contributes to the table’s airy appearance while enhancing its balance, elegance, and overall sophistication. Handcrafted in Lombardy, Italy, between 1950 and 1955, this table was produced in the style of Paolo Buffa using fine light walnut. It is well documented that the celebrated architect and designer collaborated with highly skilled Lombard cabinetmakers renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and use of premium materials, creating furnishings primarily intended for the residences of Milan’s affluent upper class. Owing to its outstanding construction quality, meticulous workmanship, and carefully executed finishes, this table was almost certainly produced by one of these distinguished artisan workshops. Paolo Buffa was among the most influential Italian architects and furniture designers of the twentieth century. His work is characterized by a refined balance between tradition and modernity, combining elegant proportions, precious woods, and sophisticated detailing. After beginning his professional career in the studio of Gio Ponti, Buffa established a long-standing collaboration with A. Cassi Ramelli in 1928, focusing primarily on interior design and furniture production. While reflecting the aesthetic trends of his era, he developed a distinctive personal language that blended Neoclassical influences with Modernist sensibilities. Internationally admired for the refinement of his designs and the exceptional quality of their execution, Buffa is now regarded as one of the foremost figures of twentieth-century Italian design. The table has been carefully restored by hand by our team of skilled craftsmen using traditional restoration techniques and is presented in excellent condition. Dimensions: Diameter: 24 in. (60 cm). Height: 20,40 in. (51 cm).
