This refined bronze sculpture captures a moment of vivid, anecdotal realism, depicting a young naked fisherman caught in a moment of shock. The figure rests on a contoured marble base supporting a naturalistic rock, where the presence of a crab reveals the cause of the boy's sudden movement: the young man portrays his body in a dynamic twist, one hand touching his foot due to the discomfort of the pinch, while the other arm reaches back to maintain balance. The work is distinguished by its accurate anatomical rendering, evident in the tension of the muscles and the definition of the slender torso, typical of late-19th-century genre portraiture. The dark patina of the bronze enhances the light contrasts on the agile forms, lending the scene an almost photographic spontaneity that transforms a small, everyday incident into a graceful and vibrant work of art.
