This soapstone statue depicts a Chinese deity, likely Shoulao (the god of longevity), recognizable by his long beard and the staff topped with a lingzhi mushroom held in his left hand. The figure wears a flowing, flowing ceremonial robe and an elaborately decorated headdress, while standing on a tiered octagonal base carved from a darker, veined stone. Regarding its period, the carving style and patina suggest production in the first half of the 20th century, approximately between 1920 and 1950, a period when these objects were produced in large quantities for export to the West. Dimensions: 30 x 13 x 11 cm
