Oil on canvas.
This is a copy of a painting created in 1696 by the Dutch painter Jacob De Heusch (1657-1701), now held at the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum in Braunschweig, Germany.
The work was replicated several times in the period following its creation, but the copy presented here is a recent production, having been "baked" and painted with varnishes to appear antique and consistent with the original.
It has also been correctly signed in the lower right corner by the artist of the replica.
The painting depicts a view of the Tiber River near Tiber Island, with the ruins of the famous Ponte Rotto (the ancient Pons Aemilius), and numerous popular figures engaged in everyday activities.
It is presented in a period frame.
