Very rare and majestic bookcase by Aldo Tura, made in Milan around 1960 and entirely covered in dark tobacco-coloured natural parchment with a glossy mirror finish.
A work of exceptional quality and rarity, it represents one of the most complete expressions of Tura's poetics, where natural matter is sublimated in an architectural language of extraordinary elegance and rigor.
The structure, handcrafted to measure, is made up of three vertical uprights that punctuate the horizontal shelves with a harmonious rhythm, generating a perfect balance between solids and voids, light and matter.
The lower part is closed by two doors with cylindrical brass handles, while the upper part, entirely open, offers large support surfaces ideal for books, objects and ceramics.
Brown-dyed parchment, an iconic material of Aldo Tura's universe, completely covers the entire structure: a continuous blanket of warm, vibrant and irregular shades, which change with light and reveal the manual skill and technical complexity of the covering.
The surface, polished by hand to a mirror effect, gives depth and an aura of refined opulence, making every detail unique and unrepeatable.
In this bookcase coexist the sensuality of the natural material, the construction precision of a cabinetmaker and the sculptural vision of furniture typical of the Milanese designer, who conceives furniture as domestic architecture, plastic space and pictorial surface at the same time.
The work is part of the more mature phase of Tura's production, when the designer experiments on a large scale with parchment as a visual and tactile language, pushing the boundary between design and decorative art.
