We present this bust of a young woman, made of white marble, probably from Carrara. The sculpture dates back to the mid-19th century. It rests on a square base and a circular pedestal, also made of marble.
This fantastic sculpture is unsigned, but its artistic quality is attributable to a sculptor who mastered sculptural techniques perfectly. The depiction of the woman is very severe, intended to convey rigor and seriousness, all characteristics that married women had to possess in that historical period. The woman wears a cap typical of married bourgeois women in the mid-19th century. She is probably wearing a cape with a cap on the back and a large bow on the front.
The sculptor perfectly captures the angular and rigid features of the face, which contrast with the soft lines of the dress. Notice the perfection of the finely sculpted folds of the hood, which run down the back and perfectly convey the sense of lightness of the fabric.
Although the sculpture has undergone restoration, probably due to a fall, this does not compromise its pleasing artistic quality, overall aesthetics or stability. We recommend that you carefully examine all the photos and note the two restorations on the neck and base.
If you are passionate about sculpture, this 19th century female bust could be a perfect addition to your collection.
