Fine pair of pendant cabinet landscapes on oak panels. One shows wooded ruins with a river, tower and hunter with dogs; the other depicts a rustic farm with thatched roofs, pond and peasant figures. Mirrored light direction and complementary subjects create a harmonious panoramic effect when displayed together.
Golden twilight tones, dense foliage, small-scale staffage and fingertip “tapping” technique for trees and thatch are typical of late-17th-century Brussels cabinet painting. Surfaces darkened by aged varnish; craquelure, patina and worm holes consistent with genuine 17th-century Flemish panels. No signs of later fabrication.
Provenance:
Formerly in a European private collection; acquired on the Vienna antiques market (Austria). The object has been in Europe for several decades.
