Oil on canvas by Gianni Gentile Uguccione 1977. Nude 60 x 80 cm. In good condition. Some signs of oil flaking.
Contemporary painter and artist, he was born in Ricadi (Catanzaro) on 9 April 1939 and died on 19 March 2005 in Bova Marina (Catanzaro). Since 1957 he had lived and worked in Milan in via Pier Caponi 5, after interrupting his university studies to dedicate himself completely to painting. He has participated in many national and international events, obtaining prizes and recognition.
It is a painting, that of Uguccione, new, extraordinarily new; yet it represents the synthesis of a classic and modern vision of the world. Uguccione combines this with a skilful chromatic research where the masses of color are fused and chase each other incessantly to express the artist's world aimed towards an immediate dynamism of rare strength. It is the key to this extraordinary interpretation of the world, Uguccione found it in his profiles, these erect profiles, almost ready to welcome the sounds and colors of the world and thus find the intimate essence. Uguccione's research is therefore continuous, passionate, which sometimes seems to calm down in ecstatic moments, sometimes expresses itself in an aggressive, almost violent plasticity.
Perhaps not unconnected to all this is the fact that Uguccione is a man from the south, from his native Calabria, the Magna Graecia of his fathers. He still has a taste for an essential world, sometimes dreamy, often restless, and the pictorial transfiguration that Uguccione makes of it could only be expressed in this explosion of colours, in these female profiles perhaps mother earth herself, in those pauses gathered where the color thickens and darkens. Yet the artist's research, his world sometimes dramatic, sometimes dreamy or passionate or sensual, is never desperate.
