RARE DEVOTIONAL SCULPTURE IN CARVED WOOD – FULL 17TH CENTURY (SEVENTEENTH CENTURY)
Splendid and fascinating period wooden sculpture depicting a standing female figure (identifiable as a Saint or a Pious Woman in prayer/compound grief), dating back to the end of the 17th century. The work can be attributed to the refined production of the Alpine, Veneto-Trentino or Central European areas.
MAIN FEATURES:
Vintage Manufacture: The work is made from a single block of wood, including the cylindrical insertion base. No subsequent assembly or rebuilding.
All-Round Workmanship: The statuette is entirely finished and sculpted even on the back, a feature that attests to its high craftsmanship quality and its original location (home altar, niche or part of a monumental sculptural group).
State of Conservation and Restoration: The object was recently subjected to a professional conservative cleaning by a specialized restorer. The intervention stabilized the wood and removed the superficial deposits of time, preserving the authentic patina of the centuries and the fascinating residual traces of the original polychromy (blue/grey and ocher tones). There are natural signs of aging and ancient woodworm holes that are no longer active.
