Item description

Ancient Italian picture of the 16th century. Oil work on table depicting a Madonna and Child and San Giovannino, of extraordinary pictorial quality. The Virgin is intent on reading while Jesus squeezes himself in an affectionate embrace with St. John. The pyramidal composition combines sweetness and solemnity, with typical characteristics of central northern mannerist painting. There is no shortage of Leonardo influences, particularly evident in the features of the face of the Virgin and in the yield of the landscape. In fact, this is made using the technique of aerial perspective, a method perfected by the Tuscan genius to create depth through the gradual loss of sharpness and chromatic intensity, thus simulating the effect of the atmosphere. The table hits for the chromatic brilliance of the drapery and for the intimate naturalness of the childish gestures. The painter then demonstrates particular skill in the rendering of the underground, treated with a soft and shaded drafting that creates volumes through a wise modulation of tonal passages. Rare and great charming work which, by subject and quality, lends itself to enriching a collection of sacred art of high era. Ideal for an elegant domestic environment, where it could become a highly suggestive focal point. Table already restored with color recovery in small points, overall in good conservative state.
