Wonderful Italian painting from the 19th century. Oil on canvas, first canvas, depicting a young woman absorbed in her thoughts, of extraordinary pictorial quality. The girl with long blonde hair is dressed soberly with a delightful light blue ribbon around her neck. She is caught in a moment of absorbed meditation while holding a piece of paper in her hands, probably a letter from her distant lover.
The composition, balanced and elegant, develops vertically on a neutral background, thus highlighting the psychological aspect of the face. The light, coming from the right, carefully models the facial features and enhances the softness of the hair and the pearly complexion. The attention to detail and the taste for feminine melancholy refer to Italian academic painting of the second half of the 19th century.
Large painting, ideal for classic or contemporary environments where you want to introduce a hint of grace and poetic contemplation. Spectacular 20th century frame in finely carved and gilded wood, highly decorative, with some signs of aging. There is a small wooden passepartout used to adapt the painting to the non-coeval frame. Work with some small drops in color (see photo), overall in good state of conservation. Painting light H 90 x W 70 cm.
