Rare Italian statue from the second half of the 17th century. Work in statuary white marble, of fine workmanship, depicting the head of a young woman, attributable to the iconography of a Goddess or an idealized female portrait. The sculpture is conceived according to a cultured and measured language, inspired by the models of ancient Roman culture. The composed expression and the wavy hair, treated with measure and elegance, are elements of classical ancestry.
The statue rests on a non-coeval base in turned marble from the 20th century, with beautiful decoration and good stability. The work can be easily placed on a console or desk, ideal for a professional studio and to enrich a private wunderkammer collection, the so-called chamber of wonders. It has some small defects and signs of aging (see photos), overall in a good state of conservation.
