Ancient Italian painting from the 18th century. Oil on canvas, first canvas, depicting a rural genre scene set in an idealized countryside landscape. The protagonist of the composition is the large water mill located along the river. The scene is enlivened by some characters placed in the foreground: two women and a man, wearing peasant clothes, approach a fishmonger.
Meanwhile, a fisherman can be seen on the river bank while on the bridge some travelers on foot and on horseback are preparing to cross it. The composition is balanced and airy, built along a diagonal that leads the gaze towards the open landscape in the background, where you can glimpse a fortified village. The sky occupies a significant portion of the canvas, and thanks to the technique of aerial perspective the scene has a surprising depth. The palette is light and harmonious, with soft greens, warm ochers and milky blues, while the light is diffused creating a serene atmosphere.
A painting of notable pictorial quality, in fact the descriptive attention to naturalistic details and the characterization of the characters should be underlined. The author of the work can be found among the painters active in the Piedmont area in the mid-18th century. In fact, especially in the Turin area, a landscape painting had developed that was strongly influenced by Flemish models, but filtered through a more composed, orderly and bourgeois sensibility.
Ideal painting for classic or contemporary environments, capable of giving depth and elegance to any space. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, beautifully decorated, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots, overall in good state of conservation. Light painting H 114 x W 90.5 cm.
