Oil on canvas dating back to the Flemish school of the early seventeenth century, depicting a lively interior scene of a large kitchen in a palace setting. In the foreground, an elaborate table presents a rich variety of foods, including fruit, vegetables and game, but also a still alive turkey, contained in a basket on the left. The composition includes several figures: the cook in the center of the scene evaluates a chicken, while on the right an assistant rolls out the dough; on the door on the left, a hunter looks out discreetly, while next to a large fireplace, where the fire burns, a figure watches over a large pot. In the background, a couple of gentlemen observe a peacock placed in a basket on a large sideboard. The work is characterized by a richness of detail and variety of color, especially in the naturalistic elements, and follows the style and pictorial ways of Joachim Beuckelaer (1533 -1574), a Flemish painter also active in Italy specializing in market and kitchen scenes, renowned for his detailed depictions of food and domestic equipment and established himself precisely for the magnificent still lifes placed in the foreground. In the past, the painting was restored and relined. It is currently presented in a period frame.
