Important Italian painting from the first half of the 20th century. Oil on canvas, first canvas, signed lower right by the painter Luigi Mantovani (1880 – 1957), depicting a suggestive view of Venice with the majestic Palazzo Ducale overlooking the San Marco basin.
The composition restores with extraordinary sensitivity the brightness of the lagoon city, where the reflection of the water, the sky crossed by light clouds and the continuous movement of the gondolas merge into a vibrant and poetic atmosphere. The brushstroke, rapid and fragmented, builds the image through refined color combinations that recall the best impressionist tradition, favoring the effects of light over the meticulous description of the detail.
An artist trained in Milan, Luigi Mantovani was a protagonist of the Lombard artistic scene of the twentieth century, exhibiting at the Brera Triennale and actively participating in the Association of Lombard Watercolorists. His views of Venice today represent the most refined nucleus of his production, appreciated for their compositional balance, executive freshness and refined interpretation of the lagoon light.
Painting of considerable size and decorative charm, ideal for large prestigious environments, classic or contemporary. Spectacular frame in lacquered and gilded wood, with some defects (see photo). Overall, it is in a good state of conservation. Painting light H 97 x W 146.5 cm.
