Item description

An elegant antique Chinese jade double disc, carved in the traditional circular shape with a central opening symbolizing the sky and eternity. The surface is finely decorated with intricate archaic scroll (cloud) patterns, characteristic of early Chinese artistic traditions. The piece displays a beautiful, naturally developed green to turquoise patina, which enhances its visual depth and suggests considerable age. Small irregularities and signs of wear are consistent with its antique nature and add to its authenticity and character. Bi discs had important ritual and ceremonial significance in ancient China, often associated with heaven, spirituality and social status. Provinance: Formerly in a European private collection, purchased in the 1950s on the Austrian antiques market. The object has been in Europe for several decades, last owner Sir A. Elnady, Vienna...
