Madonna in Adoration of Baby Jesus, oil on canvas, 19th century
Oil on canvas. Mary is depicted here standing in an attitude of adoration of her little son who lies on the ground resting on a pillow. Both figures are crowned, to recall their royalty. Mary is dressed in white with a blue mantle, her head surrounded by twelve stars and at her feet there is a crescent moon: these signs correspond to her representation as the Immaculate Conception. There is therefore in this representation a reference to a dual role of Mary: She who is preserved from original sin from the first moment of her conception, and who is Queen of Heaven, adores her Son, putting herself at the service of his plan of salvation. The painting has undergone a rather rough restoration in the past in correspondence with Mary's face, and has been relined. Presented in an istello frame.
