Splendid Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas work, of notable pictorial quality, depicting a genre scene set in a tavern interior. The work represents an elderly man sitting next to a young woman who offers him a piece of bread, giving life to a composition of great naturalness and irony. On the table there is some garlic, a glass and a flask of red wine, elements that recall the simplicity of peasant life.
The psychological characterization of the protagonists is particularly refined, in fact note the faint smile of the man who gives us a pleased look. In terms of style, pictorial quality and naturalistic sensitivity, the painting appears to be attributable to the Lombard tradition that developed between the end of the seventeenth century and the early years of the eighteenth century, in the context of the best genre painting dedicated to the representation of the popular world.
Work for antique dealers and collectors, ideal for a historic home or country residence, perfect for a kitchen or dining room. Painting part of a pair (see photo and ask for the price of the pendant if still available). Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. It shows some signs of aging, overall in a good state of conservation.
