Splendida ed eccezionale coppia coeva di importanti icone sacre su tavola risalenti al XIX secolo. Gli elementi si distinguono per il formato medio-grande (circa 30 x 20 cm) e per la straordinaria modalità di montaggio e finitura.
A differenza delle icone con copertura metallica parziale, qui l'imponente cornice in ottone antico lavorato a sbalzo funge da "guscio" o profondo cofanetto perimetrale. Questo sistema permette di ammirare le scene sacre e i corpi dei protagonisti a figura intera, interamente dipinti sulla tavoletta di legno sottostante. Le cornici presentano una ricca decorazione a rilievo con motivi floreali e tralci di foglie, che incorniciano i dipinti con un forte senso tridimensionale.
Il retro di entrambe le icone riflette la cura manifatturiera dell'epoca zarista: la tavoletta è interamente foderata in tessuto di velluto rosso originale, dal quale sporgono leggermente le svasature degli spigoli del guscio in ottone.
La coppia è composta da un'icona raffigurante la classica e amatissima devozione della Madonna con Bambino e da una seconda icona incentrata sulla venerata figura di San Nicola, ritratto insieme ad altri Santi. Essendo due pezzi coordinati nati insieme, conservano il massimo del valore storico, estetico e collezionistico. Perfetti per impreziosire ambienti eleganti, studi o collezioni private d'arte sacra.

Unlike common icons where the metal overlay covers the figures, these examples feature an impressive, deep brass frame that acts as a protective casing or "box" around the perimeter. This unique design leaves the sacred scenes fully visible, showcasing the saints painted in their entirety on the wooden panels beneath. The heavy brass casings are beautifully decorated with high-relief repoussé work featuring rich floral motifs and elegant leaf vines that create a striking three-dimensional effect.
The reverse side of both icons reflects the high-quality craftsmanship of the Tsarist era: the wooden panels are fully lined with their original red velvet fabric, which gently shows through at the outer corners of the brass casing.
